16.           MARY ANN PICKINGILL  was born in the third quarter of 1863 in Eastwood, Essex, England.  According to the Civil registration birth index, her name is listed as Mary Ann Pickingale.

Mother:           Sarah Ann Bateman                       (also known as Mary Ann)

 

 

As with the rest of the Pickingill family, the last name is spelled differently in different records.  For the article, we will use the spelling Pickingill, except when quoting from the actual records below.

 

In 1871, Mary A. Pickingill, age 7, scholar, was living with her parents in Canewdon, Essex.

From the 1871 Census of Canewdon, Essex, we find the following:

Mary Ann Pickingill married WILLIAM WOOD in 1889.

From the England and Wales Civil Registration Indexes, we find the following Marriage entry from the Indexes:

In 1891, Mary Ann Wood and her daughter, Emily, were living with her father George Pickingill in Canewdon, Essex.

** Note: because the above Mary A. Wood and Emily Wood have different birthplaces listed (not Eastwood and Canewdon respectively), it is needed to get the birth certificate of any of the younger children to verify that the mother’s maiden name is Pickingill.

Also needed is to get the Marriage certificate of William Wood and Mary Ann Pickingill to find out more about William Wood’s origins.

 

It seems that this family is not found in the 1911 Census.

In 1891, Emily Wood, age 1, was with her mother, at her grandfather George Pickingill’s home in Canewdon, Essex.  (see above for census details).

In 1901, Emily Wood, age 12, was living with her parents at Kettles Cottages Romford Rd. in Dagenham, Essex.  (see above for census details).

 

 

37.          ANN WOOD  was born ca. 1895 in Upminter, Essex.

In 1901, Annie Wood, age 6, was living with her parents at Kettles Cottages, Romford Rd. in Dagenham, Essex.  (see above for census details).

 

 

38.          ALBERT WOOD  was born ca. 1897 in Waltham Cross, Essex.

In 1901, Albert Wood, age 4, was living with his parents at Kettles Cottages, Romford Rd. in Dagenham, Essex.  (see above for census details).

 

 

39.          HENRY WOOD  was born ca. 1900 in Romford, Essex.

In 1901, Henry Wood, age 1, was living with his parents at Kettles Cottages, Romford Rd. in Dagenham, Essex.  (see above for census details).

 

 

As mentioned above, we need to verify with one of the children after Emily Wood is born with a mother with the maiden name of Pickingill.  To make sure that we have the right family in the 1901 census.
