1st Generation:
CHARLES PICKINGILL (1790-1867)
Charles was the father of the famous George Pickingill of Canewdon. He married Susannah / Hannah Cudmore. Charles Pickingill / Pickingale lived in or been in Canewdon, Hockley, and Streat, Essex. He was an Agricultural Laborer.
2nd Generation:
GEORGE PICKINGILL (1816-1909)
George Pickingill of Canewdon is the one that is famous in the Traditional Witchraft groups and Occult groups. Some people considered him to be a Hereditary Witch. Other people consider him to be a Cunning Man. This page is about him from the documentary type records. He lived in Hockley, Eastwood, and Canewdon, Essex and a short time in Gravesend, Kent. He was an Agricultural Laborer.
MARY ANNE PICKINGILL (1824- ?)
Mary Anne was one of George Pickingill's sisters. She married at a young age of 17 years to James Wells, An agricultural Laborer. She lived in Hockley, South Benfleet, Pitsea, and Canvey Island, Essex.
PETER PICKINGILL (1826-1890)
Peter was the brother of the famous George Pickingill of Canewdon. He was an Agricultural Laborer. He lived or been in Hockley, Canewdon, Rochford, Streat, South Benfleet, and Muckley, Essex.
MARTHA PICKINGILL (1829- ?)
Martha was one of George Pickingill's sisters. She married 1st to Edward Miller who died soon. She then married to William Smith an Agricultural Laborer and then Brick maker. They lived in Hockley, Rochford, Great Stambridge, and South Shoebury, Essex. In 1873, they immigrated to Fitzroy, Ontario Province, Canada.
CATHERINE PICKINGILL (1832-1913)
Catherine was one of George Pickingill's sisters. She married to George Cocks an Agricultural Laborer, a Brick maker, and then a Farmer. They lived in Hockley, Rochford, Great Wakering, North Shoebury, Barling, and South Shoebury, Essex. In 1874, they also immigrated to Fitzroy, Ontario Province, Canada. They also lived in Himsworth and Powassan, Ontario Province, Canada. In Canada, their name eventually evolved to Cox.
3rd Generation:
MARTHA ANN PICKINGILL (1858-1933)
Martha Ann was one of George Pickingill's two daughters. She was born in Hawkwell and lived in Eastwood and then Canewdon, Essex. She married to William Punt, an Agricultural Laborer then a Green Grocer. They also lived in West Thurrock and Grays Thurrock, and then Eastwood, Essex.
CHARLES FREDERICK PICKINGILL (1861-1928)
Charles Frederick was one of George Pickingill's two sons. He was born in Eastwood and lived in Canewdon and Grays Thurrock, Essex. Since before 1901 he spent his remaining years living in Canewdon. He was an Agricultural Laborer. He was the last person in the family of his grandfather, Charles Pickingill, living that who carried the name Pickingill.
MARY ANN PICKINGILL (1863- ?)
Mary Ann was one of George Pickingill's two daughters. She was born in Eastwood and lived in Canewdon and probably Dagenham and other places in Essex. She married William Wood an Agricultural Laborer who was from West Tilbury, Essex at the time of the marriage.
GEORGE PICKINGILL (1867-1903)
George was one of George Pickingill's two sons. He was born and spent most of his life in Canewdon, Essex. In 1891, George was doing time in Chelmsford Prison in Springfield, Essex.
SARAH ANN WELLS (1848- ?)
Sarah Ann was a daughter of Mary Anne Pickingill. She was born in Canvey Island, Essex. After spending some time in the Union Workhouse in Billericay, Essex in the 1860's, Sarah worked as a servant in London and then she married John Hinton who was a lighterman for barges. They lived in Grays Thurrock, Essex from the 1870's to after 1901.
HANNAH WELLS (1850- ?)
Hannah was a daughter of Mary Anne Pickingill. She was born in Canvey Island, Essex. After spending some time in the Union Workhouse in Billericay, Essex in the 1860's, Hannah worked as a servant, a cook, and as a trained nurse. She lived in Brompton, Kensington, Stamford Hill, Hackney, in London. In 1906, she went to Montreal, Quebec Province, Canada.
PHOEBE ANN WELLS (1851-1920)
Phoebe Ann was a daughter of Mary Anne Pickingill. She was born in Canvey Island, Essex. After spending some time in the Union Workhouse in Billericay, Essex in the 1860's, Phoebe worked as a servant in Sittingbourne, Kent, a nurse in Brompton, London. She married John Robert Dines. He was a Confectioner, a maker of candies. They lived in Grays Thurrock, Essex from the 1880's to after 1901.
EMMA WELLS (1853- ?)
Emma was a daughter of Mary Anne Pickingill. She was born in Canvey Island, Essex. After spending some time in the Union Workhouse in Billericay, Essex in the 1860's, Emma worked as a servant in Ingrave, Essex, as a sick nurse in Grays Thurrocks, Essex.
GEORGE CHARLES COX (1860-1935)
George Charles Cox was a son of Catherine Pickingill. He was born in North Shoebury, Essex. He also spent part of his childhood in Barling and South Shoebury, Essex. In 1874, the family immigrated to Fitzroy, Ontario Province, Canada. In Canada, he married Mary Ann Rivett. And they also lived in Powassan, Ontario Province. He was a farmer and a carpenter. After his first wife died, George married next to Mary Jane Wiggins.
WILLIAM HENRY COX (1862- ?)
William Henry Cox was a son of Catherine Pickingill. He was born in South Shoebury, Essex. In 1874, the family immigrated to Fitzroy, Ontario Province, Canada. In Canada, he married Margaret Goth. They lived in Fitzroy for a while and then they moved to Morton, Brandon County, Manitoba Province in Canada. He was a farmer.
MAJEDY MARK COX (1875- ?)
Majedy Mark Cox was a son of Catherine Pickingill. He was born in Fitzroy, Carleton County, Ontario Province, Canada. He was the only child of George and Catherine Cocks to be born in Canada. He later lived in Powassan, Ontario Province. he married Mabel F. Finch. He was a sectionman on the railroad.

HARRIET ANNA PUNT (1878- ?)
Harriet Anna was one of Martha Ann Pickingill's daughters. A granddaughter of George Pickingill. She was born in Canewdon and lived in West Thurrock and Prittlewell all in Essex. She married to Alfred Childs, a Waterman.
ELIZABETH PUNT (1882- ?)
Elizabeth was one of Martha Ann Pickingill's daughters. A granddaughter of George Pickingill. She was born in West Thurrock and lived in Grays Thurrock and Prittlewell all in Essex. She was a servant before she married. She married Walter Fellingham who was a Laborer and then a Blacksmith. They settled in Shoeburyness, Essex. Walter Fellingham served in World War I.
WILLIAM GEORGE PUNT (1886- ?)
William was Martha Ann Pickingill's son. A grandson of George Pickingill. He was born in Grays, Essex. He spent most of his young years in Grays Thurrock and then the family moved to Eastwood, Essex. He was a van boy and then carman for a Mineral Waters company. He married Gertrude Beatrice Bryan. William George Punt served in the Coldstream Guards during World War I.

1st Generation:
THOMAS PICKINGILL (1747-1804)
Thomas was the head of the Pickingill family that started in Canewdon, Essex, in the mid-1770's. He became involved with the activities of the church. He was described as a Sexton when he was buried. He married Martha Cliver.
2nd Generation:
SARAH PICKINGILL (1774- ?)
Sarah Pickingill was the oldest child of Thomas and Martha Pickingill.
MARY PICKINGILL (1780- ?)
Mary Pickingill was a daughter of Thomas and Martha Pickingill. She married Job Taylor.
MARTHA PICKINGILL (1784-1853)
Martha Pickingill was a daughter of Thomas and Martha Pickingill. She married James Scott the butcher and they lived in Canewdon.
3rd Generation:
MARY SCOTT (1806- ?)
Mary Scott was a daughter of James Scott and Martha Pickingill. She married John Hart the carpenter and they lived in Canewdon, Essex.
SARAH ANN SCOTT (1809-1891)
Sarah Ann Scott was a daughter of James Scott and Martha Pickingill. She married James George Rice Allerton. They lived in Old Pool, Great Stambridge, Great Potton Island, Great Wakering, Barling, Southchurch, and Prittlewell, Essex. James Allerton and his wife Sarah owned large farms.
ELIZABETH SCOTT (1818-1879)
Elizabeth Scott was a daughter of James Scott and Martha Pickingill. She married Golden Allen. They lived in New Pool, Great Stambridge, Great Potton Island, Great Wakering, and Tyrrell Hall, Little Thurrock, Essex. Golden Allen and his wife Elizabeth owned large farms.
4th Generation:
ALEXANDER RICE ALLERTON (1835-1901)
Alexander Rice Allerton was a son of Sarah Ann Scott and James George Rice Allerton. Born in Pool Farm, Wallasea Island, Essex. Lived in Great Stambridge, Barling, and Prittlewell all in Essex. He was a Farmer of large size farms. He married Emily.
CHARLOTTE RICE ALLERTON (1837-1919)
Charlotte Rice Allerton was a daughter of Sarah Ann Scott and James George Rice Allerton. Born in Great Stambridge, Essex. Lived in St. Clement Danes, Middlesex, and Peckham Rye and Croydon in Surrey, and Brompton Kensington, London. She married Henry Foster Shattock a Stock & Share Broker. One of Charlotte's sons was killed in action in World War I.
RICHARD ALLERTON (1838-1907)
Richard Allerton was a son of Sarah Ann Scott and James George Rice Allerton. Born in Wallasea Island, Essex. Lived in Kelvedon, Essex, Charing Cross, London, Grays Thurrock and Prittlewell, Essex. He was a Mercantile Clerk and a commission agent. Richard married Laura Elizabeth Keyes.
GOLDEN ALLEN (1843-1918)
Golden Allen was a son of Elizabeth Scott and Golden Allen. Born in Potton Island, Great Wakering, Essex. Lived in Kelvedon, Little Thurrock, Grays Thurrock, Orsett, and Walthamstow, Essex. He was a Clerk in a distillery and a Farmer. Golden married Elizabeth Lacell.

LILIAN GARNER (1891 - ?)
Lilian Garner, known as "Granny Garner" of Canewdon, Essex. She was born Lilian M. Higby. She was the source to several authors that wrote about George Pickingill in the 1950's to 1970's.
REV. WILLIAM ATKINSON (1767 - 1847)
Reverend William Atkinson was the curate and then the vicar of Canewdon from ca. 1797 to 1847. His second wife was Mary Ann Kersteman. Mary Ann and her sister Widow Eliza Frost Lodwick were mentioned to be Witches and Rev. Atkinson was in the middle of this. He had a run in with the Cunning man James Murrell of Hadleigh.
WIDOW ELIZA FROST LODWICK (1784 - 1861)
Widow Eliza Frost Lodwick the Witch of Lambourne Hall in Canewdon. She was a daughter of Jeremiah Kersteman, and sister to Mary Ann the wife of Rev. William Atkinson the Vicar of Canewdon. She had a run in with the Cunning man James Murrell of Hadleigh.
