Martha Pickingill  ( 1784 – 1853 )

 

 

7.          MARTHA PICKINGILL  was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened June 23, 1784 at the church in Canewdon.  She was a daughter of Thomas and Martha (Cliver) Pickingill.

The entry from the parish register for 1784 says “Pickengill Martha Dr of Thos & Martha June 23d”.

Martha Pickingill married JAMES SCOTT on May 7, 1805 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.

The marriage entry in the Canewdon parish register for 1805 says:

James Scott, a Bachelor, & Martha Pickengill a Spinster both of this Parish were married in this Church by Banns this Seventh Day of May 1805.  by me W. Atkinson Curate

James made a mark while his wife Martha signed her name.

 

James Scott was born ca. 1782 according to his age of 71 when he was buried in 1853.  According to the 1851 census, James was born in Rayleigh, Essex.

He was a Butcher and they lived in Canewdon.

 

In 1841, James and Martha Scott were living in Canewdon, Essex.   James Scott was listed as a Butcher.

From the 1841 Census of Canewdon, Essex, we find the following:

10.          MARTHA SCOTT was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened August 25, 1805 in the church at Canewdon.   The entry in the parish register for 1805 says “Scott Martha Dau: of James & Martha. Augst. 25.”

In 1815, Martha Scott died at the age of 9 years in Canewdon, Essex and was buried May 1, 1815 in the churchyard of Canewdon.

11.  +         MARY SCOTT  was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened December 21, 1806 in the church at Canewdon.  The entry in the parish register for 1806 says “Scott, Mary Dau: of James & Martha Dec: 21.”

Mary Scott married JOHN HART.

 

12.          ELIZABETH SCOTT   was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened May 1[ ], 1808 in the church at Canewdon.  The entry in the parish register for 1808 says “Scott, Elizabeth Dau: of James & Martha. May 1[ ]”.

Elizabeth Scott died young.

 

13.  +         SARAH ANN SCOTT  was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened December 3, 1809 in the church at Canewdon.   The entry in the parish register for 1809 says “Scott, Sarah Ann Dau: of James & Martha. Dec: 3.”

Sarah Ann Scott married JAMES RICE ALLERTON.

 

14.          ELIZABETH SCOTT was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened October 6, 1811 in the church at Canewdon.   The entry in the parish register for 1811 says “Scott, Elizabeth Dau. of James & Martha Oct: 6.”

In 1815, Elizabeth Scott died at the age of 3 years in Canewdon, Essex and was buried May 28, 1815 in the churchyard of Canewdon.

16.          SUSANNAH SCOTT   was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened March 12, 1815 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.

In 1849, Susannah Scott died at the age of 34 years in Canewdon, Essex and was buried May 30, 1849 in the churchyard of Canewdon.

In 1851, Martha Scott, age 33, single, was a visitor at her sister’s home.  She was at Golden and Elizabeth (Scott) Allen’s home, Tyrrells Hall, in Little Thurrock, Essex (See page about Elizabeth Scott’s family for census details).

In 1861, Martha Scott, age 42, unmarried, was at her sister’s home.  She was at James G. R. and Sarah (Scott) Allerton’s home, Blue House, in Barling, Essex (See page about Sarah Ann Scott’s family for census details).

In 1871, Martha Scott, age 55, unmarried, was at her sister’s home.  She was in a place called the “Brick House” with Sarah Ann Allerton in Southchurch, Essex (See page about Sarah Ann Scott’s family for census details).

In 1881, Martha Scott, age 64, unmarried, was at her sister’s home.  She was in a place called “The Oaks” with Sarah Ann Allerton in Southchurch, Essex (See page about Sarah Ann Scott’s family for census details).

In 1891, Martha Scott, age 74, single, was at her sister’s home.  She was in a place called “1 Armada Villas” with Sarah A. Allerton in Prittlewell, Essex (See page about Sarah Ann Scott’s family for census details).

 

18.  +        ELIZABETH SCOTT  was born in Canewdon, Essex and was christened March 1, 1818 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.
