Thomas Pickingill  ( 1747 – 1804 )

 

 

1          THOMAS PICKINGILL was born ca. 1747 base on his age of 57 when he was buried in 1804.

 

Thomas  Pickingill  married   MARTHA CLIVER on October 22, 1773 in the church at Canewdon, Essex.

The marriage entry in the Canewdon parish register says:

Thos Pickingill of This Parish single man and Martha Cliver of ye same spinster were married by Licence this 22d of October 1773 By me Ambse Uvedale Vicar

The marriage was Solemniz’d Between Us

Thomas Pickingill signed the register, his wife Martha made a mark.

 

Martha Cliver was born ca. 1747 base on her age when she died.

 

Thomas Pickingill was very active in the Canewdon church affairs.   He was one of those present in the following marriages in the church of Canewdon and he leaves his signature on each entry:

There are many more going into the 1790s.

 

At the time of his burial, Thomas Pickingill was a Sexton.

 

In 1804, Thomas Pickingill died at the age of 57 in Canewdon, Essex and was buried November 16, 1804 in the churchyard of Canewdon church.

The entry from the parish register for 1804 says “Pickingill, Thomas    / Sexton /  at: 57.  Nov: 16.”

 

In 1824, Martha Pickingill died at the age of 77 in Canewdon, Essex and was buried July 19, 1824 in the churchyard of Canewdon church.

2.   +     SARAH PICKINGILL was christened March 6, 1774 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  The entry in the parish register for 1774 says “March 6th Sarah Pickingill Daughter of Thos. & Martha”.

 

3.          SAMUEL PICKINGILL was christened August 11, 1776 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  The entry in the parish register for 1776 says “Pickingill Samuel Son of Thos & Martha August 11th”.

Samuel Pickingill may have lived in some other locations since there is no further entries concerning him.

 

4.          THOMAS PICKINGILL was christened April 19, 1778 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  The entry in the parish register for 1778 says “Pickingill Thomas Son of Thos & Martha do 19 do” (April 19 1778 with information from the previous entries on the document).

Thomas Pickingill may have lived in some other locations since there is no further entries concerning him.

 

5.  +     MARY PICKINGILL was christened February 20, 1780 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  Mary Pickingill married JOB TAYLOR.

 

6.          JOHN PICKINGILL was christened June 2, 1782 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  The entry from the parish register for 1782 says “Pickingall John son of Thos & Martha June 2d”.

In 1804, John Pickingill died at the age of 22 in Canewdon, Essex and was buried October 2, 1804 in the churchyard of Canewdon church.

The entry from the parish register for 1804 says “Pickingill, John … at: 22.   Oct: 2.”

 

7.  +     MARTHA PICKINGILL was christened June 23, 1784 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  Martha Pickingill married JAMES SCOTT.

 

8.          CATHERINE PICKINGILL was christened January 1, 1786 at the church in Canewdon, Essex.  The entry from the parish register for 1786 says “Pickingill, Catharine Daughter of Thomas & Martha Jany. 1.”

In 1804, Catherine Pickingill died at the age of 18 in Canewdon, Essex and was buried May 9, 1804 in the churchyard of Canewdon church.

The entry from the parish register for 1804 says “Pickingill, Catharine … at: 18.  May 9."
